OUR STARZ CODE OF CONDUCT
Below is an explanation of “Our Starz Spirit” philosophy.
This code has been written to ensure that ALL Spectators and Players enjoy all netballing events (training, game days, carnivals etc.) in a safe and encouraging environment.
Breaches of this code at any other time will be addressed by a member of the Starz Executive and may involve sanctions depending on the severity of the breach.
Our Starz Spirit
“The way a team plays as a whole determines success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual Starz, but if they don’t play together the team won’t be worth a cent”
– Babe Ruth
As a Club, we are very proud of the closeness of our players and the support given across all of our teams by everyone involved with United Starz Netball. At the games on Saturday it is not unusual to see members of our Starz Family watching the whole game before/after their own.
United Starz Netball prides itself on being a club that tries to bring out the best in every player.
Winning is not our first priority – building a sense of self-worth, sportsmanship, confidence and pride in a player’s own achievement is what is important to our Coaches. Although a win is also nice and very welcome; we want our players to go out on the court and give their best, have FUN and enjoy the sport of Netball.
Players should remember that each individual player can, and does bring their ‘something special’ to the team – be it speed, accurate passing, great footwork, a thinking player, someone who always gives 100%. Therefore it is important for players not to just look for the ‘best’ player on the team to pass to, as many opportunities are missed by playing this way.
Prior to the commencement of every game, United Starz players are asked to turn to the opposition and offer to shake hands and wish them a good game. At the end of the game, our Starz are asked to call the opposing team into a huddle and start with 3 cheers for the Umpires, 3 cheers for the opposition and 3 cheers for their own team.
Negative on or off-court comments and/or behaviour towards the Umpires, opposition and especially to our own team mates WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and this behaviour will be addressed immediately by your Coach. Action taken may include sitting the player off for the next quarter (up to a whole game) and discussing the behaviour with the player and parent at the end of the game. Poor off-court behaviour from Starz Spectators and Supporters is also unacceptable and will the dealt with. A major incident and/or ongoing poor behaviour will then be dealt with by a United Starz Netball Executive Committee Member.
Players and Spectators alike, should also remember that the Umpires are always striving to do their best and their decisions should be respected. Without our Umpires, our teams would not be able to take to the Court each week and we appreciate the efforts of our United Umpires.
Coaches and Parents are asked to remember that WE are the role models for our players and they will pick up and follow our behaviours. Let us always encourage and lead by example.
WHAT IS ‘STARZ SPIRIT’ – A TEAM WHO TAKES TO THE COURT WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE; 100% DETERMINED TO PLAY THEIR BEST AS A TEAM; RESPECTFUL OF THEIR TEAM MATES, UMPIRES AND OPPOSITION; PLAYS HARD BUT FAIR AND WHO WANTS TO ENJOY THE GREAT GAME OF NETBALL!!
UNITED STARZ NETBALL EXPECTS THAT OUR ‘STARZ SPIRIT’ WILL SHINE BRIGHT AT EVERY GAME. PLAYERS AND SUPPORTERS NEED TO REMEMBER THAT ONLY ENCOURAGING AND POSITIVE COMMENTS ARE ACCEPTABLE DURING GAMES.
CLUB OFFICIALS, COACHES, MANAGERS AND SPECTATORS (AS ADULTS) ARE EXPECTED TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE.
